The Mission of the BioTransfer Unit is to facilitate the commercial development of University College Cork's Bio and Lifescience Research for the benefit of the University and society.

We are committed to delivering the highest professional standards in Intellectual Property Management, Technology Transfer, Administration and Industry & Educational Outreach.

Core functions of the BTU include:

  • Evaluation of the commercial potential of the intellectual property developed by researchers
  • Supporting the University in developing strategies to protect and commercialise that research
  • Assisting companies in identifying and accessing appropriate expertise and intellectual property to meet their strategic development needs
  • Engendering public awareness of UCC bioscience research activities through education outreach
